Brewer’s Library Beer Dinner

Hey Gang,

We hope everyone had a great holiday season. We have something special planned for the New Year. Join us January 11th in the Brewers Loft for the first and one of a kind Brewer’s Library Dinner.

For the past 7 years Shaun has amassed a collection of unique, rare and aged beers from other brewers, visitors and on his travels around the world and it is time to open up the cellar and try these extraordinary beers with great food. Chef Lorenzo has put together quite a meal that will be paired with the beers from the
library.

The fun starts at 6:30 PM with hors d’oeuvres in the brewery
followed by a five-course beer-paired meal on the mezzanine and then cigars and after-dinner beers outside in the beer garden.

We are limiting space to 20 people for this special event, so reserve now and tell your friends. Price is $120 per person, including tax and gratuity. Here is the menu just to tease your appetite.

Colorado’s number 2 craft brewer will be moving all brewery operations, having recently acquired a state of the art brewing facility in MD, were they began some of their brewing in 2006. They are moving their entire brewing operations to the MD facility, while their corporate, sales and marketing offices will remain in Colorado.

Flying Dog CEO Eric Warner said, “By concentrating the brewing operations in Maryland, we will become a more efficient business, which is very important given the extremely competitive conditions in the craft beer industry,” Warner said in a statement.

With 60 % of Flying Dogs sales being east of the Mississippi they will save as much as $1000 per truckload in costs, according to Ryan Fox, the brewery’s manager.

Warner as stated that the Denver brewing staff will be offered the opportunity to relocate and will be given a relocation package.

Bier Stein Collage

Bier Stein logo

The Bier Stein Bottle Store and Pub carries over 950 different bottled beers and 10 constantly changing taps, in addition to delicious well made pub fair. This remarkable little gem in Eugene, Oregon was opened in July of 2005 by Chip and Christina Hardy. Chip is an award winning professional brewer in the Pacific North West and in an interview posted on the latest Craft Brew Cast he tells us how he went from not liking beer at all to becoming the proprietor of a premium bottle store in

Oregon. His journey of discovery is a fascinating tale and he now aids others along a similar path by his offerings and tastings.Always unusual beers on tap, and the microbrews that line almost every wall and shelve offer something for everyone. Do you like sweet malty

Belgium ales? Bitter or aromatic hoppy beers? Flavored Lambics? Experimental or smoked stouts and porters. How about a vintage ale? There is something for you at the Bier Stein. Why I came home to the Valleys to brew my beer

Why I came home to the Valleys to brew my beer

The smell of hops may have been absent for a century but Tom hopes his beer will soon put the town on the brewing map.

Tom has returned to his Welsh roots after relocating his brewery from Somerset and branching out under a new name – The Celt Experience.

Under the new banner, Tom will start brewing his latest creations based on historic Celtic brewing methods.

The first brews of Celt Golden and Celt Bronze are expected to take place on Friday.

When production is up and running around 11,000 pints a day will be barreled and sent out to free houses throughout Wales.

Tom will also continue brewing his other ales, including Wolvers Ale, which won an award in the Winter Beer Festival in Manchester. He started brewing under the name Newman’s Brewery in his garage in Yatton, Somerset, and now his beers are available in 40 pubs in the area.

His £250,000 venture and relocation has been made possible with grants from the Welsh Assembly and Caerphilly County Council.

Tom, 32, who lives in Whitchurch, Cardiff, with his wife Becky and two young children, said his plan had always been to brew Welsh ale for a Welsh market after a few years experience in Somerset.

“All my family are from Nantgarw so it wasn’t the case of why should we move back to Wales but why did we go to Somerset? Becky’s from there and we started the business there but it was always the plan to start a business in South Wales.

“It’s been a bit strange for me coming back to an area I knew from such a young age.

“Everybody talks to me about my dad, uncle and family. It’s quite nice but yes, it’s strange.”

Contractors are currently putting the finishing touches to the brewery based at the old Hill’s factory unit which will employ four people including his wife Becky on a part-time basis.

Tom is planning to brew a lager in the new year and hopes to bottle his creations by March.

He also intends to double his staff by the end of next year.
